alright, so my headlights on my 99' taurus were stuck on even though the car was off. i couldnt figure it out so i tried everthing from checking relays to the mfs. i couldnt figure it out. so i went to the ford dealership and they wanted $80 to diagnose it and $149 in labor/parts to fix!!!
so i said f that i and decided to figure it out myself. anyway i was reading through some online forums and i read in my manual about daytime running lights and so i pulled that fuse and bam! it worked. saved my self over $200 for 10min of work so happy. just though i'd share

I wasn't aware that a 99 US-spec taurus had daytime running lights (drl's).

I do remember that car having some sort of sensor that kept the lights on after the ignition turned off, so I'm thinking that the fuse you pulled might affect your headlight system, especially the high beams, which is what many drl's use (low watt output)

no, my taurus doesnt have daytime running lights. ford put a sensor in all taurus so that it would be uniform with non-us spec cars. when that fuse/sensor goes nuts it causes problems like this. i checked my high beams and they seem to work fine. good thoughts i was thinking about this also.

Ford dealerships are horrible! The only one I have had luck with was in White Bear (Tousley Ford.)

I would have suggested resetting the ECU (disconnect battery for about 15 minutes.) But, you figured it out Nice job.

A lotta contour guys order parts through them or have work done there.

Even with my discount from working at a shop, I still order my parts from out of state dealers that keep their prices much closer to cost than my local dealer. I'll only buy something from my local dealer if it's under $10 and I need it right away, even then I have to talk them into a lower price since nothing is under $10. Though they were able to find some sway bar brackets for me that my usual out of state dealer couldn't immediately track down.
