Do the PSL![]()
Visibility is BAD
any abrupt maneuver increases Visibility
NEVER speed in an active School Zone
you only save seconds but it can cost you thousands
In good daylight, beware of shadows - eg stand of trees, underpasses etc, over crests of hills, round slight curves with bushes - be aware where u turn bays are for emergency vehicles.
by and large, start to think like a highway patrol and where people are a, most likely to speed, and b, where its easy to setup and safe to re-enter and give chase
dont underestimate how much safety determines where they set up - this is an increasingly restrictive part of their job.
there's an article on the net somwhere with the same title - its about noticing where you see a trap, then thinking about WHY its there - then the same situations can be used to clow and cover for a short while before resuming your relaxed cruising.
Oh, and tip number 2 - dont use your mobile phone, or check out passing views - inattention is the shortcut to tickets.![]()
On certain highways/toll roads, with repeated overpasses, it seems they always set up on the other side of the hill. So if you have an incline, and a nice stretch before the crest, then you can speed, then take your foot off the accelerator, and slow naturally so that by the time you're over the hill, you're at least not more than 10 mph over the PSL. This is a stutter approach to speeding, giving you windows of opportunities, which can then be exploited while also allowing time to spot any LEO over the hill. This pulse approach also has the advantage of dealing with the inevitable LLL's, i.e., knowing you'll only have stretches available before coming upon a LLL.
awareness of your surrounding, shoulders, hills, curves, and overpass. and watch for brakelights. try to stay off the left lane as much as possible. LEO's like to target that side first.
Know the types of enforcement used in your area. There are big differences between radar traps, lidar traps and VASCAR/ENRADD traps, and pacing is a different beast unto itself. Do your local/state agencies use unmarked cars? How about slicktops (lo-vis cars with no lightbar on top, but still carrying agency markings)?
How do you get this information? Well, there are a few options. One, you could always call up the local PD, tell them that you're interested in speeding through their jurisdiction, and would like to know the best ways to not get caught by them. If you go this route, make sure you give them your name, address, license plate number and a description of your car.
Alternatively, you could search through the forums here and see what we have on your local area. The Local and Regional Info forum is a veritable gold mine of that information. And don't underestimate the importance of driving through the area yourself. Learn what to look for as far as the different types of traps. Here's a primer:
1. Police car parked parallel to the right-of-way probably means radar, and if your detector hasn't gone off yet, it could be instant-on.
2. Police car parked perpendicular to the right-of-way probably means laser, but it could be a handheld radar gun.
3. Painted white lines on the roadside that seem to have a pattern to their placement likely mean VASCAR is a threat.
4. Most bike cops, in my experience, use lidar, and the combination of their low-profile ride, hard-to-detect lidar gun and "I'd write my mother up," mentality makes them one of the toughest threats on the road. Isn't that right, Fritter?
Most importantly, match your countermeasures to the threats in your area. If police in your neck of the woods think that laser is that thing aliens shoot at us when they're pissed, don't waste your time/money on a jammer. If they sit in the bushes all day with constant-on radar that you can see from two miles away (Pennsylvania comes to mind), you probably don't need to spend a couple thousand on an STi-R and a Valentine One. If you know that your local agency likes to shoot instant-on Ka from every parking lot in the county, and you can't drive more than a mile on the freeway without getting tagged by those pesky aliens, well then, maybe you need to either invest in some serious equipment or reconsider how fast you want to drive.
The number one rule I go by, and the one which has saved me more times than I care to count, is this: NEVER be the fastest guy on the road. If you want to go 100, make sure there's someone in front of you going 101.
Use a cop detector, duh.
They've got to be right once for the ticket to stick, you've got to be right 100% of the time to not get one, learn everything you can, apply it. Focus be alert maintain situational awareness and keep an eye on your speed, take away all the electronics and a smart driver with no ECMs will outdo the ignorant/naive/arrogant driver with all the best available ECMs.
If LEOs in your area use I/O, be careful of hills, They might be on the other side ready to nab you!

Alot of your tactics depend on what is used in your area. Get familiar with local speed traps and slow down in those areas. If laser is used in your area, you have no choice but to use a rabbit.
