    Default 3 Basic X50 Questions

    3 questions
    1. I read somewhere that turning off certain bands, namely x band, will make the other bands more sensitive. Is this true?
    2. At what times will my X50 not really provide me with the best protection. I have gotten 4 tickets: stop sign (officer did not have radar on, cop pacing me with no radar in car, laser in heavy traffic in town, and one on I-10 east of Tallahasse at around 4 in the morning with hardly any cars around, got the Ka alert way too late.
    3. Is there a FAQ about how to react to the different warnings your detector is giving you?

My answer to #1 would be YES. I've heard that the detector screens for signals of each band one at a time. Obviously, if it isn't checking a particular band at all, the others will check more often. Perhaps this is wrong, it's just what I've heard.

To #2: Rounding corners, going over hills, having obstructions(other vehicle, buildings ,etc.) will decrease your range of detection. Obviously, you won't have any protection, at least from your RD, if an officer is pacing you, using VASCAR, or other radarless means of speed measurement. This is where your alertness, caution, and open eyes will come in handy.

    #3...I'm not sure

With regard to #1 - while it is true that the detector scans only one band at a time, the frequency range of X band is so small that disabling it will have no noticeable effect on other bands.

A question that branches off on a similar tangent.....

I know that running two detectors in the same vehicle is a bad idea for a number of reasons, but would doing so be viable if one detector were to be set for certain frequencies, with others disabled, while another detector was set up the "opposite" way.

    For example:

    - X50 with X and K enabled, all others off
    - V1 with POP, Ka, and laser enabled, all others off

    :?:

Additionally, would disabling/enabling laser even matter, in this case of dual (er...dueling?) detectors?

The bands enabled won't matter. Since the oscillators are still active, they could interfere with each other.

No, since laser detection doesn't use the oscillators...

The answer to number 2. You will have weak detection even with X-band if you're almost parallel to the officer. In my case this happened when I got a X-band instant on last weekend where teh officer was in the center median hidden behind bushes almost perfectly parallel to the traffic. I didn't have a bunny, I went around a slow moving vehicle in the center lane, I was going about 10-15 over limit, I got a weak X-band signal, and I saw a white flash go by my left side, and the alert went full. Luckily I slowed down in time to avoid a ticket. Otherwise the X50 works spot on! no tickets as of yet!

For number two, instant on is always hard to detect. Especially when you might confuse it for a Cobra. Laser is pretty hard to. And anything that doesnt use radar will get you.

How much would disabling X and K help as opposed to having only X disabled?
