Looks like you're about to fall for one of the biggest marketing scams on radar detectors, the 12 band plan :-)

There are only four radar bands, three of which are used in the USA and they are X, K and Ka.

Then there is ONE laser band

Cobra's marketing has decided that they can take these three (or four) radar bands slice them up and make their own

Take our word for it just get the 8500 and dump the cobra.

But as for ur question not exactly because the filtering on the Escorts is better than the Cobras. So its more sensitive but its also "smarter".

    TRUST OUR WORD DUDE...
I was in your shoes when I first came here....
I owned some 30 dollar detectors, as the cobra is a 30 dollar detector dressed up and priced jacked...
Then I got a x50,.It was a world of difference, like a school bus racing a vette ina quarter mile...

The escort is eight times more sensitive than any cobra or so..
Cobra falses on door openers, my aunt has one and it makes me laugh..lol
The escort is worth the extra cash....
Just trust us..Thats why this website is here, we all know what were talking about..Tell your sister she should take that cobra back asap..Seriously a waste of money, hands down.

Please, bay mafia, I'm not trying to be rude, but do some research here on this website before you're asking these questions. Check out the various sections (cobra, etc.) and then go to www.guysoflidar.com to see how the various detectors rate against each other.

You'll quickly learn what's good and what's bad (cobra).

Well, let me start by explaining this to you.

    There are not eight bands
Escort doesn't mean eight radar bands,
they mean Radar Sources it can display.

There are 3 Radar Bands: X, K, and KA.
There is 1 Laser Band: Laser (904nm)

Escort in Expert mode can pick up and show you
more than one radar source at a time.

    4 X threads,
    2 K Threads,
    2 KA threads.

What This is good for: Example

A Law Enforcement Officer doing speed enforcement
beside of a Supermarket that creates a false alert on your
detector. The Escort will show 2 Radar sources, this will show
you that it's detecting 2 signals and one is bound to be a Officer
    doing speed enforcement.

Here is what the Expert display looks like.

Stay away from the Cobra, they make very bad detectors. They
also leak and set off other radar detectors.

The escort is very sensitive but is very smart at the same time.
It has the best Filtering of all the detectors.
