I haven't seen it yet, nor have I ever seen the Low Voltage one. What can I do to make sure I never do? If my X50 dies, I'm screwed, as I forgot to buy the service plan on it!ops:

Don't leave it in the car to overheat. But by now that isn't a problem. At least here...
Oh wait, Arizona, yeah take it down when you park![]()
so it is caused by overheating?
Overheating can only exacerbate the situation. It may also be caused by other factors, but overheating can definately cause the issue.
*phew*
Good thing I do that anyway. The one thing Tempe, AZ, has more of than degrees on the thermometer is car thieves who absolutely love to find expensive radar detectors stuck to the windshield.![]()
Saabr nailed it , heat and electronics dont match. If you take care of it, it will last longer.
Personally I think heat does play a role in the self cal and service required messages but there are also other issues. Even though Bel disagrees, I think starting your car with the unit on causes problems (power surges). I'm sure there are other issues that are not yet known to man. I just hope Bel corrects these issues.
RD on when you shut the vehicle down is potentially just as bad for sensitive electronics of any kind, too.Even though Bel disagrees, I think starting your car with the unit on causes problems (power surges).
