Angry Ka 34.7 delay. Is this normal?

This morning on my way back from my girlfriend's house, I saw a LEO (NY State Trooper) in the distance with lights on and a car in front of him. No alert. Just as I'm almost exactly right next to him, my 9500ix goes crazy indicating 34.7 Ka. When I stop, the alert goes away. But just as I move a little further away from the intersection, the Ka alert goes off a little more again, only to diminish shortly after. That seems like quite a short distance to initially pick up that alert. Is that normal?

I've had a few like that. The reason was likely becuase he was running front radar only and you were coming up behind him.

No, he was facing me. The antenna was pointed right at me actually

Were you going below 20 MPH, I believe the ix and ci mute the alert if you are traveling below 20 MPH.

Should have alerted then in my opinion.

I'm sort of giving it the benefit of the doubt, saying it could have been delayed because he already pulled the guy over. But holy crap, the Ka detection on this thing is not what I expected. Guess I'll be able to compare when I get my V1.

Or do they turn down the output on the radar when they pull someone over?

But just becuase there is an antenna facing you doesn't mean it was turned on. Believe me. Your 9500ix wouldn't miss constant on 34.7 without eating it up (like most detectors do). The ix is one of the best at 34.7 behind only the V1 and STi possibly.

I've had 2-3 similar unusual episodes with my 9500 ci on what I deem to be late alerts of relatively strong Ka signals (see my current post in Real Experiences). One experience (not posted in that thread) was speed related (i.e. the Ka alert muted while I was at a light stopped) so I think(?) that one was normal operation although I will say that Ka signals don't always mute on the unit when I'm stopped.

I think that there might be a firmware/software issue on interpretation of Ka signals, but I'm trying to collect more experiences, waiting on more people to have similar experiences, and setting up a camera to get opinions from people here before sending my unit in for repair.

There's no way I'm sending my unit in for repair as I just got it back from being upgraded to a 9500ix, and it's running the latest firmware. (See my posts about the "Beta Firmware".) I've had instances like this before with the detector. It seems like this shouldn't be happening. It makes me angry because I should be able to rely on my detector for a good amount of distance, not almost POINT BLANK until it gives me even the slightest alert. Come on now.
