9500ix GPS Filter

I wanted to know if this is normal for the 9500ix.

I have my RD set on highway mode with GPS filter off.

I also have my RD with the Pilot speed setting which gives my MPH.

Here's the question, when I go under an overpass or go through a tunnel, MPH on RD goes to 0, as soon as the RD sees the sky I get my MPH back.

Just wondering if this is normal despite the fact my GPS filter is off, I read a thread and it said something about even though the GPS filter is off it's not necessarily off, don't know how true that is, please inform.

The GPS never shuts off, only the lockout features of the GPS. Your pilot speed will work no matter whether the GSP filter is on or off. Yes, going thru a tunnel, the GPS will lose signal, once in the clear it received the signal again. Perfectly normal.

I know with the GPS on you pick up speed traps, RLC's, and so forth.

What is the advantage with a GPS on a RD period.

Since I have my turned off, because it seems to work for me better, what am I honestly loosing out besides RLC, speed traps, lock out, etc..

My RD just seems to work better with this option off instead of on, I get a little more false alerts, I can live with that, it is still a quite RD.

You still get "SmartMute" which mutes anything below 20mph (which covers probably more than half of all falses [I should say half of all non threats]). The 9500ix is very quiet even with the GPS Filter off.

All of the IX GPS features are always fully operational. You forgo RLC, etc & any marked location alerts by turning GPS filtering "Off".
Since the GPS is always active, your signal acquired indicator will stop blinking almost immediately if you turn filtering during your trip.
Auto Sensitivity also works with GPS filtering off.
