For suburban driving your best bet is an Escort 9500ix. You need a radar detector that will alert you to radar that can target you. You don't want a radar detector that will alert to radar that is originated from 4 blocks over and two miles down that road. The Redline has incredible "off axis" reception that will alert you to many radar signals that are not on your route. Additionally the ramp up of the alert on the Redline is very aggressive, so many alerts will appear closer and more serious than they truly are. You may soon start to ignore many of the alerts, due to your experiences of these alerts that you can't identify the source. The 9500ix does not have as great off axis reception, and will have far less off route (I am not calling them false), alerts. Many members on this and other radar forums are enthusiasts who only want the most sensitive radar detectors. Many radar detector users do not need this. This is why the 9500ix has been Escort's best selling radar detector for years.
I'd have to agree on the 9500ix for your type of driving. I run a segmented redline and love it however I drive about 70 miles a day and 62 of those miles are on highway 80 where the only radar sources is from the KSP guys running 34.7. The redline does have a tendancy to drive you crazy in city like areas with lots of automatic doors etc. The ability of the 9500ix to learn false alerts and mute them would be very beneficial in your situation. For the most part I reccomend redline for highways and 9500ix for the city to all of my friends who ask. Also it is nice to have the ability to update software at home and detect redlight/speed cameras. The redline does not do this.
I would get Max instead a 9500ix to give you a little extra radar sensitivity.
Man I'm really undecided. Max has proved so many of you wrong to me this morning, but seeing reports like this fills me with doubts. My V1 range experiences are very much the same with Max. I'm having a hard time seeing all the complaints. I'm starting to think people unplug or jack up their MAX during update time or something I dunno, because my RD is performing solid on KA and K ... the I\O shots I got this morning were great. I had bountiful time to be saved. I'm still within trial period, but right now I'm aimed at keeping MAX for the long haul. I'm not at all experiencing the problems I'm seeing people reporting.
I am excited to go leo hunting when 1.5 update comes out.
Everyone is going to experience something different with their Max,that's just a fact with any R.D. but I do believe there are some problems out there with the Max or there wouldn't be all those bad post but Escort will work it out soon enough.I would just keep your Max and try to forget all the negativity since your experiencing something obviously others are not.![]()
A smart thing to do is wait and let the improved updates happen to get the bugs out! But it is nice to see folks that like to spend money buy these new products, that way they can be the lab mice for all of us.....Opps, sorry, Redline for the road and the Max in the future- for the city, 9500ix is a thing of the past for it is too slow....
