Default NEW. Just ordered first detector ever!

Hey. I drive a 2008 Suzuki and was ticketed back in April of this year. I was on I-20 headed West near Thompsom , GA. I was headed down this two lane interstate with few traffic in the fast lane. (STUPID!) I was rolling @ about 105 mph...I was comming up on a trucker REAL quick going about 75 mph. I slowed to about 95 mph and crested the hill...and BOOM! I was caught...clocked @ 94 mph in a 70 mph zone. I was 17 yrs old and scared to death! Got off real easy. Fine was $200, didnt have to go to court, and I paid an extra $75 to do a monitoring progarm. The watched my driving for three months and if I went without another violation (which iI did), then the ticked was dropped. No points, no record of it, and no ins. increase...thank goodness. So i decided it was time for some protection. Im 18 yrs old and in college so money is kinda tight. I was on a budget and ordered the Bel RX65..i hope its a good one for my needs. I usually dont run 105 mph so i hope it works out. I plan on hardwiring it with a smart cord hardwire kit. I do have a 6 inch tint strip, will that interfer with the range of the detector? And i also ordered an aux. speaker for the unit as well. Im excited to learn about this and I hope I made an okay choice. Any tips, advice, suggestions
Thanks so much for yall's help.

P.S - That day last April I also learned to NEVER run fast ALONE...i was stupid..i guess you learn from you mistakes..

Welcome man, I just joined myself, but am not new to detectors (and speeding). I've been there man, but I didn't have the amount of information available today when I was your age. I am not familiar with your detector but am sure you've done your research and others will chime in and confirm your good choice.

    Speed Safe!

Welcome to the forum. No one's perfect we all make mistakes and even with the best detector sometimes get owned by Lidar, I/O, or even VASCAR where it is used. That is why I made a conscious choice to drive near the speed limit, even with a good radar detector. You'll learn a lot. As for whetehr or not you made a good choice of detector, I've learned that a radar detector purchase is a personal decision based on one's circumstances. As you indicated, money is tight. If you had an unlimited budget, you could have purchased a V1, Redline, 9500ci, LI jammers and the works. But you don't have an unlimited budget. You did well to get a detector that meets your reality and with the research you did, a detector that you feel comfortable with. Just stay on this forum and learn the strengths and weaknesses of your detector and the best way to use it and you'll be fine. As I indicated, how one uses a detector is the best defense as no one detector is 100% foolproof to all the LEO technology that exists. If you want further assurance on your purchase, go to your original post and click on the RX65 link and read the reviews by several satisfied owners.

Welcome to the forum and like everyone said to use it right and have a rabbit. The RX65 is a decent radar detector if you are on a budget, if you know that they don't use X band in your area you can turn that off. If "POP" not use you can turn that off also because it will slow down the reaction time of the other band. Keep reading the forum and learn all you can and you will cut down of any more ticket that you don't want.
