Whatever increase governments outside Springfield see could blunt the expected financial blow from a new law Gov. Quinn enacted in July to take $15 out of each mail-in bond payment and channel those funds to the State Police, which the Illinois Municipal League and Republicans opposed on grounds it would mean less money from tickets for local and county governments to divide.
The legislation passed the Democratic-led General Assembly as an alternative to massive layoffs Quinn threatened against the State Police last spring in a bid to offset the state's $13 billion budget deficit.
with all of these people fighting over ticket money you'd think it was about revenue and not safety but we know the truth it's all about the safety

The approach typically is much cheaper than going to court, where court costs can easily put the final bill for a speeding ticket well above $200.
Dang, that's cheap! Here in CA, a speeding ticket will run you well over $400.

But in CA it is a lot easier to beat the ticket and most of the high number tickets in court will push the fine closer to 450 (especially in dupage, **** dupage).
It just depends on circumstance but Illinois has sort of been a little noticed speeders paradise with lenient judges and traffic school for everyone. My favorite was when LIDAR was being contested at the frys hearing in cook county. I had a lot of fun on LSD during that time.

In the good old days, you could go to traffic court and request Court Supervision: you'd pay your tithing to the state, and your ticket would be dismissed - without the drudgery of traffic school.

Looks like things have been going steadily downhill since I left IL.
