Default Bluetooth Headset Adapter for Radar Detector

    Hey everyone,

I've been considering getting a bluetooth headset + bluetooth adapter (plugs into 2.5mm headphone port on most electronics) to try out to use with a radar detector. It would be mainly for trips in which I have my wife and newborn son in the car. I don't think having the normal earplug would be that nice since where the detector will be, it's just a pain (not to mention ugly). I was considering trying out one of these:

Jabra A210 Bluetooth Adapter for 2.5 mm

    or

    Cardo Scala 2.5mm

Both are battery powered (so will last for a long trip, but not good for everyday use - I will not use an headphone for everyday use since I'm alone). The device plugs into the headset port on your RD and then you use a normal bluetooth headset with it.

Anyone tried anything like this before?
Anyone recommend a system to use for this?

I'll update you all when I try it out. I haven't ordered it yet, I figured I would check what you guys thought first.

Anyone know if it's a 2.5 or 3.5 mm jack on an x50? My RD isn't here yet.

It's 3.5mm. The Jabra A120S is the right one for this use.

I've been thinking along the same lines too. The key is to have a match betweeen the profiles supported by the transmitter and headset. The transmitters I looked up supported A2DP and my phone headset only Handsfree (for phones). My idea is to take the audio output from the RD and jammer to the unit. This way I can have a wireless connection to my ear and not bother the family.

Let me know how it goes.

That would be cool - but not really for me. To make the transmitter powered couldn't you just run a power cord to it and where the battery is supposed to be create a voltage regulator and connect accordingly. Obviously you don't want the ear piece to be corded because at that point it would be easier just to get a M > F cord and run that.

I tried the corded route. Bought a 3.5mm M-F extender and routed it thru the roof lining to the edge of the sun roof, then hooked up a earphone to it. The dangling wire is a bit ugly, plus the earphone tends to pop out when rubber-necking one's head while driving (like backing up, etc).

I would prefer to get a corded tx though, it doesn't need to be cordless. If the cordless tx were smart enough to power up on audio signal (and go into standby when there's no audio signal), then it would be fine I suppose.

    Default that does

That does sound cool. I just bought a Bluetooth the other day for my Samsung phone. Since my phone in Non Bluetooth compatible, I also had to buy an adaptor so I can use the bluetooth on my nonbluetooth phone. I got the Bluetooth on sale last friday for only $10 at RS. I had to pay $25 for the adaptor which I bought on ebay. Funny that the adaptor costs more than the bluetooth .

It should echo its beeps out extremely loud on any blue tooth or head set you plug into it. Make sure your blue tooth device (which I have not used) has a volume control on it or everything will be very loud.
