    Default Instant On Question

I was wondering, are there any radar detectors, that give enough time for instant-on. Because I just received a ticket, when I was driving with my (Bel 955), when it alerted me with a ka band and 2 bars, so i hit the brakes, then it went 5 bars. By that time I was under the speed limit, but I look in my rear view mirror, and at least a 1/4 mile away was cop coming after me, and pulled me over. I just don't understand where he came from, and how he was so far behind me, and clocked me. So i am just wondering, if there is any new technology out there, Or it is just like laser, where you just have to hope for the best. Thanks

Just need a really sensitive RD like a Valentine 1, and hopefully when the cop guns someone in front of you, you'll pick up the signal. Cool thing about V1 is that you'll also know about which way the threat is comming, be it front, back or to the sides.

What's up with all the new V955 people?

Anyways, your best hope for instant on is to get a really sensitive detector like a bel STi, escort 9500i or a V1 and use a rabbit always, witch is a car in front of you.

Well if you're the only guy out there and they shoot only you, you're toast.

However if there is other traffic on the road within a reasonable proximity, and you have a detector with good range, your detector should be able to alert you in time.

This topic will be discussed in more detail after I finish up a new section for my www.radarroysbuyersguide.com

However, there are good tips in the guide now that will help you make a good decission and if anything catches your interest in the guide PM me for a discount

even my cheap xtr140 gave lots of warning time to instant on, so will most other detectors if you are using a rabbit. if not, even the best radar detector cannot detect a radar signal where there isnt one

IMveryHO, the time-honored method of "instant-on" is much more dangerous to speeders than even LIDAR.

Jammers (and even blind luck) can address the latter, but without such protection for I/O RADAR, like the others here have said, if it's you that's being targeted, you're pretty much toast.

The only thing that will save you from I/O is to pair a very, very sensitive detector along with extremely vigilant driving practices (keeping a rabbit/bird-dog at proper distance).

Lacking either of the two (and yes, even if you have the "best" detector, if you don't drive smart, using good tactical practice, you'll *still* get nailed), the chances of getting cited increases tremendously.

I agree with TSi, I/O is killer, even in NJ they have I/O x band which will catch people off guard thinking x is obsolete and then bam get caught with it.

No detector will save you if you are the only car on the road and get I/O if you are going too fast, so as others stated you have to have a multi prong approach.

Also, moving I/O is killer too when a cop is blasting cars going the opposite direction, then turns around and comes after you.

I'll give you a quick answer: No!

    Instant on is deadly.

This is why cobra owners constantly get owned because they disregard the most dangerous aspect of speed control currently in use.

Atleast with lidar (nearly equal in threat)you can jam, however, with instant on your are like a fish in a 5 gallon bucket.
