Default How important is rear laser detection?

How important is rear laser detection? Seems if you get shot with laser, 9 times out of 10 you are toast, especially in the Butt as your only chance seems like getting scatter from a car shot in FRONT of you. Not to say it is worthless, but I'm thinking of mounting my detector in on the dash where it won't have a clear view through the back window.

Also, the Z4 shifter doesn't depend on the detector. It can operate just fine without being interfaced to the detector right? What is the advantage of connecting it to a detector?

    Always mount high.

Laser reception really isn't going to save you, front OR rear, unless your whole car is non-reflective.

Never been targetted in the back during the last 5 years.

But I read a court report where the leo was not able to obtain
a speed from a truck , so he shot it at the back ....ticket.

Protection for the rear is only achieved with a precise install
    of a top unit

I've read mounting it lower gives better front laser detection but that really just better ticket detection. Seems like scatter from a car ahead would have to be up high as the car is blocking anything low so the laser can only go through the front window and out the back??

Do you recommend mounting high as to eliminate rises in the road blocking rader? Does 18" really make that much difference, realistically? Any tests out there regarding placement?

I really want to mount it in the most inconspicuous place. Not because of LEO's, but for asthetics. I really hate having it in the middle of the windshield and none of the mirror mounts fit my car. I can't do visor since it's a 9500ix with GPS.

If you have a ZR4, mount your radar detector where it can best pick up radar signals. (Up high)

The ZR4 heads should be installed where LEO's are going to target you. Rear plate or low on the front bumper.

Linking the RD and the shifter will just give you a single location to get all your alerts.

I got targeted from behind. LEO was sitting in a ditch, in the dark, letting cars pass by him and hitting the rear license plates.

Rear laser detection is extremely useful, if you are curious if there are any Infinitis behind you. Other than that, it's totally useless! A "Dream Catcher" is more useful than rear laser detection!

Rear laser detection lets you know to get your checkbook ready.

yea, exactly. If laser is used in your area, only protection is a laser jammer... your laser/rd just becomes a ticket detector.. if it even goes off.
