2011 Toyota Sienna Failure?

Here is a 2011 Fully Loaded Toyota Mini-van...sticker price of $45 + Grand...they do have a nice detector. Its a Beltronics STi Driver.....is it too low??

*shrug* It's a STI. Unless you're counting on laser scatter or holding a pissing contest on an extra 50 feet over-the-hill, that mounting position is fine IMO.

Yeah the worst thing you can do to your mount is to have it pointing up/down or left/right excessively, or mount it behind something metal or opaque like sitting in your cupholder.

However, an extremely low mount is not necessarily a problem. The performance differences between high and low mount is not that appreciable, especially considering that "low" for a minivan is probably still higher than velcroing to the ceiling of a Corvette

It's funny cause I saw a sienna get pulled over today in my neighborhood's famous speed trap. Cops love to pick on 'em too. The only time I've been stopped was when I was with my friend in his mom's minivan.

I guarantee it's still higher than the high install in my Miata, though...

Personally I'd go as high as possible, as long as it's practical, in any vehicle. I remember the member Freebird here, when he was driving trucks, mounted a RD to the sunroof at at the top of his cab and claimed to get incredible range.

Didn't Mem-Tek do some tests showing a low mounted detector actually performed a little better due to the slope of the hood reflecting more of the radar signal up to the detector? Seems like it was a very small difference, but in any case mounting low didn't hurt the performance.
