Yes! That is why detection distance is very important.......Common I/O is around 4-5 seconds like you stated. He will rehit if needed or just leave the unit on......With a slow RD on a 4-5 I/O, your RD may alarm for 1-3 seconds, 2-4 seconds after the initial signal started. One problem is that the Leo sees your high speed for atleast 3-4 seconds before your slowing, thus he is assured that your should get that ticket if he can determine with his eyes that you are the fastest auto (or targeted).....A lot of filtered RDs can miss I/O because the algs of the program thinks that it is a false, this is rare but happens (I will send you a pm on this).....Yes, you were 99% screwed......It was an I/O.....
