Give me a rundown. I don't know what all the modulation etc. does. I have RF gain and as far as I can tell it doesn't do squat...

    I'm looking for an excuse

A RF Gain control does squat as far as you can tell? Boy-o-boy... what it does is it lowers the receive on your unit... in other words: If you have been messing with it and not knowing what your doing, and you don't have it at the highest level: You have been compromising your unit as a countermeasure.

Its a very useful feature for truckers... and only somewhat for us as a countermeasures purpose.

So far, it's not so much the bells and whistles as it is the overall quality of the Galaxy that impresses me. I need more time with it on the road before I can conclude anything beyond that.

My worst problem with the 520 was that it didn't mute the external speaker when the mic was keyed, so it would always feed back. Otherwise, it's not a bad radio for the size and price.

srtga - give me a shout if your travels ever bring you near the Atlanta area, I'd love to compare setups and maybe get in some distance testing. Nobody else who shows up for jammer testing here has a CB.

Either it was a defective radio, or you were doing something wrong. You may have had the external speaker plugged into the PA speaker jack and the PA switch on. No way would the radio be designed to do that normally.

x2, It sounds almost like it has a talk-back feature in it?

At any rate... it should not do that on a 'normal' basis.

Perhaps it was defective is some way. I bought it at Fry's, and it's not unheard of for returned merchandise to end up back on their shelves and sold as new. I am certain the speaker was in the correct jack. It's way too late to do anything about it now, but it's good to know that radio isn't actually supposed to do that.
