What causes 'E' error message?

Got one couple days ago, and since then V1 displays E after couple minutes of usage. Especially when it is lightly warm. The heat level is an operating temperature I am referring to, the slight warmth that can be felt while touching.
Had this unit (3.856) for 1 year and 6 days. Out of warranty.

It works when A/C is pointed to it, when it is cold.

Anyhow, just wondering what inside causes the unit to go bad? I'll send in the unit when I have time.

I've heard that it was usually due to aging or failing capacitors. Correct me if I am wrong please. My V1 was the same version as yours. I received E's once a week and decided to send it in. They fixed it for the standard 45 dollar service fee and it came back as a 3.858. I've been happy ever since

The unit needs to be sent back to VR for service with a note explaining the problem. I would be VERY surprised if they charge you for the repair, the unit will probably come back with .858 and no charge.

Send it in - chances are they won't charge you seeing as it is a known error.

You all keep telling him to send it in, but he already said he was going to. I believe he asked (out of curiosity) if anyone knows what exactly fails in the unit that it gets the "E" error message. Does anyone know this? pronacyk already suggested aging or failing capacitors, but that would seem unlikely on a unit a little over a year old...

You don't even need to call them. Just send the unit in with a short paragraph describing your problem. They'll call you if they need your CC (they did for mine, but I was not the original owner).
