    Default 3.826 having problems

first of all - my 3.826 has been absolutely bullet proof until now. yesterday im detailing my interior and had to do a significant amount of shampooing to get it clean. i took the unit down and put it back up when i was done. all of a sudden the darn thing wont come on at all. then it comes on and goes straight to all lights lit up and no start sequence. im thinking to myself - WTF. so i come in this morning with all intentions of sending it in. im filling out the labels and such and just on a whim i take it and plug it up to the lighter plug and low and behold it comes on this time. the only problem is it doesnt do its normal startup and starts showing L K X leds lit up and then goes to pop and starts up like normal. now im really thinking WTF. i decide to check the settings on it and low and behold there are arrows pointing down now on 3 letters. Now keep in mind ive never ever changed any settings on this thing and now all of a sudden they are changed. and no - nobody has ever touched my V1 except me. this is my truck i haul my racecar with and nobody is ever in it without me and surely not anybody who would have a clue as to how to even change them anyway. so i make the changes and turn it back on and now everything seems back to working fine just like before. i can honestly say that it was working perfectly before taking it down - i didnt drop it - shake it - or anything else for that matter. i treat it like its gold or something. the questions is - has anybody else seen anything like this before?

could it have been the connection? it seems like it just for some reason was not getting any power? if it was out of tune or acting weird i think it still would have turned on...and whens the last time u sent it in for a tune?

i too was thinking that the connection was bad - i was thinking maybe the hardwire got wet or something - that is why i took out the lighter plug and tried it. it was just wierd that the settings changed effectively on their own. when it started working properly with the lighter i plug i stuck it back up on the windshield with the hardwired plug and it too worked properly. it didnt do that before - i tried it several times before pulling it down to ship it. its really strange.

My .826 did the same as well but I got it sorted. The reason why it did this was the plug was half in. It seemed to upset the power up. This gave me all sorts of strange things. All i did was reset it to factor mode test it then back to my preferred settings works fine. So I'm thinking you have a power connection problem. Good luck

I had some wierd issues similar to youts with my 3.826 (which I still own) when I first got it a little over 2 years ago. It was caused by wierd voltages from my stereo.

It would some how magically program little l mode for some really bizzare settings after I played the stereo loud (loud as in 145 db loud)

In my particular case the problem went away after I added an active power line filter that gives the detector a solid 12.2 volt source completely ripple free and noise free when the car is on.

My situation was a little extreme because of my stereo, but you could be having electrical system issues to the unit. Could be something as stupid as a bad cable or as bad as a dieing alternator (not likely though)

I've only had one other issue once, my V1 showed it was on and did all the function stuff in the beginning, but would not go off near known falses. shut it off and back on and hasnt happened since.

A dying alternator can definitley cause strange behavior in RDs. I've seen it happen. My V1 would power down then come back on again with the power on sequence whenever I braked in my '96 Grand Prix. Two weeks later the alternator died. Just before the car stalled I was using a BEL and the display on it locked up. So I had two weeks advanced warning of alternator failure.
