    Default How does POP work?

Can anyone tell me how a radar detector detects POP? In POP mode, are the filters turned off? Is the detector scanning a wider band width? You get the point. Also, do different companies use different techniqus for finding POP. Start with V1, that's what I have.

The sales person on the phone at V1 told me that if I disable POP, I would potentially miss a non pop alert on K or Ka. This doesn't sound right. What's the deal? She said the band of coverage is wider in the POP mode. True?

its just a really short burst .67 or .16 ms of radar...its useless dont worry about it...turn it off on your v1

Why do people say it is useless? What if a cop is running pop. OK yes I know that they can not issue a ticket with pop but what if he gets your speed first with pop and sees you are speeding and then just hits you with I/O. Because you have pop turned off you missed your first change at slowing down. Once he I/O you, you are dead meat. So I don't see a reason to keep it off, I have never gotten any falseing form pop and would rather get a false alert than completely miss one.

Depending on what radar guns your local law enforcement have,

    1. You possibly won't ever be POP'd
    2. You'll get (enter obscenely high number here) false alerts for every 1 real POP threat.
    3. At 1000 feet, detection for POP detection for most radar detectors have proven to be poor. Look at the Guys of lidar tests for this. http://guysoflidar.com/march-2007/ra...ctor-test.html
    4. Detectors have to scan for the POP adding on to the time to rescan other more realistic threats aka Ka and K band.(I think for some detectors it doesn't make a difference for POP on/off and some it does)

    I leave pop on...........

it does not really do any harm and it may help if you are in areas where they may pop yu first.....and it would be a good first pick up.

if you have a rabit like you should you'll never need pop; he'll get i/o'd.. you'll be warned... he'll be pulled over... you snicker and go about your business

I have not seen any test in which the V1 picks up the 16ms POP bursts? Has the latest revision fixed this?

I am lucky to live in an area where MPH does not sell very many, if any radar equipment at all. I have yet to see any of their equipment anywhere in Cali. It's all Kustom and Apllied Concepts(Stalker). Almost no Decatur either, for that matter. So, no MPH equipment means no "pop-capable" radar guns. Works for me.

That's the biggest factor that I am aware of. Tests show that turning POP off increases the detection range of other bands, which is a lot more important to me than decreasing false alerts. But add both of those together and you have a win-win situation.

But I agree that, if you do face a POP risk, I personally would keep it enabled. No, they theoretically cannot cite for POP readings, but as already mentioned, that POP alert is a warning of impending I/O, which is something you really can't afford to throw away.
