Default Newbie here, bought a V1 and have some questions.

Hey guys, I just got myself a V1, an upgrade from my old cobra 100 dollar detector which i saw as really bad as it had WAY too many false alerts.
Anyway, to get to the point, I had some questions i wanted to ask about how I can really benefit and properly read/understand what my detector is saying.

    1. I live in Florida, and have been getting ALOT of X-band alerts, that are just annoying cause it can build up to like 5 or 6 targets and none of them are cops. I heard that Florida doesnt even use X band, so wouldnt it be best if i just turn it off?
    2. How does this "mute" button work, like if i have lets say K band and it has "2" on the radar both infront, and i just push the knob once, it mutes it, does that mean it will only mute those 2 that it initially caught because i know they are false alerts? Meaning it will resume to beep for anything else it catches other than the 2 i pushed the knob on?
    3. I am also getting some K band false alerts here and there, what other things other than cops with K band radars could be triggering my detector to give me false alerts on K bands? I mean if i keep pushing on my brakes everytime i hear the K band go off, i might aswell drive slow the whole time, I never know if its a false alert or a real cop.
    4. Finally, other than in my first question about the X band, what other things shall i turn off so that i can keep false alerts out as much as possible. I mean the reason i paid 450 bucks for the V1 was because i thought they are the best and wont give me any headaches for false alerts. all I want is a detector that will almost always beep only for REAL alerts.

Also, just to let you guys know, the version on this V1 is 3.891, and it is on full factory settings, and has the letter "A" on the screen when its on and running.

Ok, I read alot of stuff from your links. Alot of it is confusing but i understood the most important parts i guess. So basically im supposed to make an automute for my K band on that 30 sec thing. But the guy sais if you run on "a" mode, it wont make a difference, and i will have to run on L or l mode to have it benefit me. However, my first question is still not answered. in Florida specifically, shall i turn off my X band?

Snaggles, welcome aboard! Here's a similar FL discussion from a few weeks: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...tml#post881917

And I don't believe you need X band in FL.

Okay guys, after doing even mroe reading, i think i got everything, what I did was turn off the X band (the number"1" on programming mode). Also i turned off the nummber "7", which gave an automute for the K band if it is under 4 LED's, and set the automute time to 30.
NOW, my last and only question/concern. I know that I will only benefit from the K band automute only if I keep it on big or little L mode (atleast that is what I understood). Is it not possible to have the settings/programming I made also fully work on "A" mode? So if i run on "A" mode, will the automute for K band 30 sec still work? The reason why I want this is because from what I understood from these links is that little and big L mode give loss of range on sensitivity and are not as good as the A mode... which is something I dont want.

Can anyone explain to me where I am wrong on what I said?

Welcome. There is only one way to be able to live with a V1 in your area and still see the alarms but keep the V1 quite and to keep from spike'n the brakes. Put the arrows #1 down (X band off), #7 and b arrow down (30 sec K band mute) and leave the V1 in the little l mode with tab volume around 11:00 o'clock and main volume around 5:00 o'clock. Weak k band will alarm at a low volume just for a notice and strong k, Ka and laser will scare the crap out of you for response. When the V1 alarms, just press the button to keep the volume low on that alarm. It is that simple and trains you for I/O.......

Id just first like to say, thanks again to everyone on their input.

Now, everything you said sofar, is currently exactly what im doing. My concern however now is that because i am always keeping it on little L, doesnt that make it less sensitive for laser/ Ka bands? whats the difference between the A and little L mode? Wont i loose any kind of sensitivty from running on little L mode rather than A mode?

I would also like to know this. That one experiment back in '05 concluded that both the "L" modes decreased the range significantly. I don't know if it is so now.
