Audis have, or can have, a Homelink transmitter mounted to the headliner above the rearview mirror. You should be able to tap into the wiring for that.

Also, if it has one of those self-dimming mirrors, that can be used as a power tap as well.

not possible to test the connectors with a DVM because the 2 wires of my DVM are too big to entry in the connectors :x

Nothing's impossible if you use bent paperclips!

Straighten two paperclips and then wrap one end of each clip around your DVM's test probes. Connect the black probe to a handy ground point (secure it) and then use the red probe with the bent paperclip as a skinnier probe to stick into the connector. Be careful not to cause a short since you could blow a fuse.

    Default BMW wiring

I have a 2001 E39 540i 6spd. I want to wire my detector off the cig light or the homelink trasmitter in the headliner. Which wire is accessory hot in each location? white/green? which would work better? Thanks in advance

is there anyway to hardwire it so that it doesn't turn on twice (and send lots of voltage) when you start the car? So for example.. if the car is turned on to accessory/ac it won't be on.. but if the engine is on.. it will be on?

I assume leave the V1 off, until the key is in the proper position to drive.

welcome!!! friend to our board!anyway this is very important that u trun off the v1 before staring your car i been doing some test on my v1. me and RacerX know this could be a problem for the v1 to act up and lose alot of range till you turn the v1 on and off like bye truning the knob off the restarting it back on it goes back to the normal v1 range which is alot more anyways i have been noticeing that when i i do turn my v1 like i should affter starting my car it works wonderfull i get allmost like 1 mile more  :? :shock but when its the other way around when my v1 is on then i start my car and it starts twice like you are getting lots of voltage is going bye the v1 it acts up i mean it loses range this is something to think about try it out it could be my v1.7 tho not every v1 acts the same. this is somethng u should look into if ou are getting very poor range on the v1 or any one else

I'm thinking of designing a delayed-on circuit for my V1, something that makes the V1 turn on maybe 5 seconds after starting the car. If and when I do, I'll post the schematic here. For cars that have accessory circuits that cut out when you engage the starter, it's not as much of a problem, but my Audi doesn't have an accessory circuit.

would that be difficult to make? It would be really useful though for those lazy people like me who would rather have it turn on on its own than to turn it on and off :P
