    Default Bel E795 RD

My dad's V995 got a service required msg on it. He is sending it back under warranty to be repaired. In the mean time he wants to get a back up detector to last him until it comes back fixed. (not real expensive) The Bel E795 is at radioshack for $59.97. Is it any good? Is it worth buying?

    Thanks

Quality control seems to vary some. Most of them are pretty good, especially considering the price.

I have had one and it was pretty good. I am actually planning on selling it to a friend tomorrow.... so I don't feel as bad about getting the STi from Roy. It's worth picking one up at RS and trying it out. But don't hesitate to bring it back either because I know the quiality control on them sucks. Many people have good ones, but many have ones that are just bricks it seems.

I have an E795 that I bought from Radio Shack--it does okay for me. There are some false positives that occur but I get used to them. It's my opinion that it's worth the few bucks I paid for it.

BEL is known for poor quality control.

795 models do tend to differ unit to unit. Surprisingly, I have a GOOD 795. I hear of others on here who have bad 795's. :?

exactly. i think its an absolutely amazing deal for $60. its a good unit. it even gave me 2.2 mile warning on K band on the highway one time. granted it was flat and relatively straight, but for that kind of performance for $60 is awesome. i say DO IT!

I tried a 795 and it was terrible. K band range was a half-mile max. Ka band was line of sight only. Not enough protection even with the low price. Someone that is budget minded will do better with a 895, which I think is a very reasonable price. In many places a speeding ticket is $150 minimum, so it can pay for itself very quickly.

To those that got 795 factory ringers, more power to ya! Sometimes I think my 985 is a factory ringer it works so well. But there are enough others out there with great 985s so it may not be so unusual. As a matter of fact I haven't heard any complaints at all about the 985.

So GTO, what is the big difference between the 985 and the 995?

The 985 had longer range on Ka band.
