Just a little update, as far as falsing, which you would expect with any sensitive RD, the STI is pretty much identical to the GX, maybe even alittle quieter. That intial quiteness, had me thinking the STi, may not be as sensitive as the GX.

But I've run into a few scenarios, where the STI, is detecting Kband at great distances.

The first day or so in the truck I had poor luck entering into any good scenerios, even the 700 mile I did over the weekend on the Bike, I couldnt Buy a Leo if I wanted too. Last week it was Leo city, where'd they go?

I'd already mentioned the outstanding instant on hit Saturday

On sunday, I was out in the middle of no where, and got a kband hit, I had a mile visablity in all directions, it was corn filed land (I was the only one there. The closest major road was 2 miles away as the crow flys, I assume thats where the signal came from. I was pointed in that direction at the time.

These events were on my bike with RD monted on tank bag behind windshiled

The only other event I had, was coming to an intersection on the bike , and got a kband hit just as I was stopping, I looked all around for it, 90 degrees to my right, .2 mile Leo coming down the road.

That would be great on a blind corner, I hope to test out.

Anyway, the 1000 miles between the truck and the bike only leaves me seeking more scenarios, the last 3 or 4 days has been slow.

It was slow for me this weekend too. I went to visit my dad and not one radar gun encounter anywhere.

    Not slow around here.

So far the Sti is kicking the crap out of my GX. Not sure where they can say the detection is the same.

Even had 2 times where the Sti even slighty beat the -R on 34.7 Ka band. (Yes , I know 3 detectors and I might get cancer or something) Hard to tell the distances, but it was 45-50 secs at 75mph and the troppers were moving also. After the new software from the ramp up fix a few months ago the Sti is working quite well and is very good on K and 34.7.

At times the Gx is close (never beats) to the Sti and other times it gets beats it 15 -20 secs at highway speed. All those are very weak and/or off axis.

I put the GX in the Trunk until I need the camera or speed trap alerts.

Hope you like your new Sti. I am enjoying mine more and more.

Yeah, the STi's audio ramp-up fix firmware includes new filtering algorithms which now allows the STi to alert to extremely distant radar as long as the radar signal is detectable for at least 1/2 of a second instead of having to be present for 7/10 to 1 second with previous firmware versions. I'm amazed that Bel/Escort managed to pull this off without an increase in false alerts. Its reason enough to pay for sending in an out-of-warranty STi for this new firmware code.

Today in the truck, I was coming up to a known hide out on the interstate. I cleared the small rise on the interstate and in the distance, I see the PD suv perpendicular on side of the road just past an overpass bridge, My RD shortly alerted, this was KA band.

If I'd gotten the alert before clearing the rise, that would have been Outstanding, but since I already could see the Leo before the alert, that was very negligible.

That distance was about 3/4 mile at the most, Still though, not an A+, more like a B. What we dont know If that was enough distance not to have already been tagged, IMO if they are in sight, the alert is just telling you they see you

    what do ya think?

I went back and measured from alert to target and it was .7ths of a mile on that interstate speed trap . I decided to move the RD from below the rear view, to about 1ft higher up. Dont know if that will do any good or not. Its seems like one of my normal falses, picked up alittle sooner, maybe a couple hundred feet.

I seem to be consistantly getting about 3/4 mile alert on Kaband on the interstate, Happened today, couldnt see anything , they were over a rise in the road and on the opposite side.

I guess that is okay, if you get the alert and they cant yet be seen.

I have been running the unit very high on the windhield, since I came over a rise previously and I see the cop atleast around 3 to 5 seconds before the alert began on kaband. 3/4 mile alert to target(interstate).

Alteast today, I did get alert well before going over a rise. But hope to repeat my indentical earliler failure with high mount for a retest at that location.

Like mentioned , since raising the RD, one of my normal falses seems to alert a little sooner, so maybe there's a Positive in running it higher.

However I noticed the unit doesnt cool as well in that area of the winshield, and its only in the 70's, how will it do in the 110'S?

just concerned about heat destruction, cause it does run very warm when exposed to sun, even with air cond on, in that area of the glass.

Yeah, I got hit this morning on the way to work. About 1/2 mile behind two small hills. I coasted down from 68 to 50 (PSL was 55) and smiled at the officer. I love my STI!!!!!!

Porky, you will be particularly impressed with the STi's exceptional off-axis detection as you already noticed. This kind of detection is especially useful when you are in city driving, and approaching an intersection of which a LEO is further down that road in which you are going to turn on. You will be alerted to him before you even get to the corner!
