    Default Service Required

Would just like to say I got this nice little message last week. Friend's x50 got it about 3 months prior. Did escort build in something that after a set amount of time causes you to give them $50-$60 to fix it?

I'll probably get a V1 next year. Not because it's way better, but because I don't want anything from Escort/Bel that will just break after a few years.

When I do get a V1, what should I do with the x50? Get it fixed and sell it, or sell it as is? Thanks.

do you leave your rd in the sunlight, because that's the #1 problem with the bel/escort units, it gets the serv. required message if you let it bake

Well the first thing you have to do is slow the *BEEP* down... then send the X50 back to Escort to have them fix it.

    ^^X2^^

1st off, no its not on a timer or anything like that, its by exposure to light, abuse (falling off the windshield, tosed into the seat, etc) and all that

V1 does THE SAME THING, it'll fall out of tune like any other microwave reciever (and Transmitter for that matter), the only difference is that the V1 wont tell you that its off tune and in the process of NOT KNOWING you could get a ticket for it

I didnt think hat the E was attributed to off tune, honestly I dont know too much about V1 F-in up, only when theyre WORKING...but does professor Jim agree with validity of the rest of my post???

    Certainly...

Basically, the Belscorts Calibrate the first LO by examining mixer products which are the result of mixing the first LO with the crystal-referenced second LO. If it dosn't see these mixer products, it will eventually display Service Required after a number of cycles...

The V1 doesn't self-calibrate in the same way the Belscorts do. I don't know the technical reason for the "E". Since it started coming up more in the recent hardware change, I am inclined to believe that it can be triggered by problems with the "temperature compensation" circuit, which makes for a more controlled sweep.

I think both detectors could potentially fail in such a manner that would not display any kind of indication that there is a problem.

Well seems like V1 owners have less problems than escort, so that's what I'm going with. I do agree keeping outta the heat is a good idea. But I really think there is something wrong with these x50s (my friend's and mine, and I'm guessing some others, maybe not all). They also give a LASER warning when we honk our horns, and his also gives a LASER warning when he is WOT. I have noticed a huge loss of sensitivity in mine lately. It used to be awesome, now I usually see the cop before the detector warns. And a few months ago, I passed one of those speed signs and it alerted. Came back the other way shortly after and not one beep and yes sign was still on.

the group here might have some problems but that is by no means a representation of the X50 elsewhere in the world
