instant on question?

If the LEO is good, (alot of them are) they can "lock your speed" in half a second. If you are alone, you are toast. If your in the dark, you are toast. Use a rabbit but let him lead you enough so you stand a chance at planting the brakes. Likes Roy's advice say's keep alert of what is around you.

I agree. In order to have a chance you would have to have the cruise control on and have your foot right over the brake pedal ready to slam on the brakes. It is possible, I have done it, but it's not practical for everyday driving. It worked against a Vindicator K band and a Stalker ATR handheld, but not against a Stalker Dual. And if you do that in a state or province where RDs are illegal you're going to be pulled over anyway.

That's how they determine if a trucker is using an RD in Indiana, they just hit you with instant on and see if you brake rapidly. No RDDs here, not with the State Police nor with Motor Carrier Enforcement units.

When I did my first instant-on test run against a Stalker Dual, it appeared that the instant on was a total failure. I was clocked at 1500 ft., and there was no reading on the radar at all! By the time it could get a reading on me, I was well within the speed limit. At that time I was within about 520 ft. of the radar. Turns out that I was out of the Stalker's range on the instant on hit. BTW, I was driving my '01 WS6 TA at the time.

I had this happen in real world driving. As I passed the Python II-equipped cruiser, the cop had a puzzled look! Priceless. They must train the cops to clock cars at 1500 ft.

The older MPH K-55 K-band unit I have takes about a half a second from when you hit the instant on switch, to display the targets speed.

It's pretty quick considering most folks don't drive with a foot hovering over the brake pedal.

That's in stationary mode, right? I read somewhere that it takes longer in moving mode. Unfortunately, with newer Ka radars like the Stalker Dual, it seems to be just as fast in moving mode as in stationary.

Still my favorite thing is to be on the brakes before the cop hits the RF hold switch. He knows when he hears the dropping doppler audio (if it's on) that he just got beat! Just yet another reason to be aware of your surroundings.

i use the foot over the break idea quite often. saved me more than once already...especially that one time almost hitting a deer on my way home at night

does that happen with most vehicles and guns? is it like with lidar, the shape of your car can make a difference? or not really. i wouldn't think it does
