I am glad to hear you Son is doing well. I have given plenty of Escorts to the Hospital for parents that had emergencies. When your Son or a member of your family is in need of Medical attention all bets are off. If you have been blessed an have not lost a member of your family that is huge. What well change your life for ever is when you become a member of that club. It is truly the most life changing moment and if that Doctor or Nurse needs to be at the hospital because there the best at what they do then respect itl.

Escorting someone is the worst of all possible ideas. NEVER do that. NEVER! In fact, any agency worth a darn would absolutely prohibit such madness, and I would fire any officer with judgement that poor.

Escorting someone depends on the situation. If you have a person that has been shot multiple times and you know that he is loosing a bunch of blood and the more you excite the person the more blood they loose the more you move them same thing. When you have this kind of situation you have 3 Police cars for such a task. Waiting for an ambulance is not always the right call. My partner was shot in his leg. Had I not made the decision to throw his ass in the back and drive him he would have died on the street. He was hit in his artery. For obvious reasons you would not have someone that you could not handle the situation. You have to react, you don't have time to think am I going to get in trouble. By the time I typed this I could have driven a mile and a half. Things are very different working with a Dept of 4000 then working with a Dept of 500.

Ummm putting a fellow officer in your car and running code in your squad car is not an escort. Also most departments nowadays are training there officers to at least EMT-B and providing them with proper med bags and mandating recurring training, so in the situation you described other officers would also be able to be administering aid at the same or at least a similar level as the ambulance; having that trained officer car lengths ahead, medic kit in the trunk and blazing down the road to the hospital while someone untrained in emergency driving chases them, would be at minimum reckless.

The State Police here pulled someone over, called for an ambulance for the teenage daughter mid asthma attack, cleared the call 20min later, with the field report for the ambulance and a speeding ticket issued.

The biggest factor about being a city cop is that hostpitals are like 7/11 they are on every corner. We had 8 in my section. So getting a person to follow is much different then driving five miles or more. As for medic bags let a medic be a medic an a cop be a cop. You wanna talk about not wanting to risk escorting to emt stuff and getting sued. No thanks. Truma to be is gun shot or several gun shots.

If a doctor is on their way to a life-saving situation, then the correct move for the officer (imo) would be to get back into his car, turn on his sirens, and shout, "Follow me!" to the doctor as they both head for the hospital.

If it turns out that there is no life-threatening emergency and the doctor was just trying to get out of a ticket, then write him the biggest ticket of his life and wish him good luck explaining to his bosses why he's being detained in the parking lot while a police officer dismantles his car to search for narcotics.

After trying in vain to do my taxes, I can safely say that yes, yes they have.

Its really pretty simple if you were to get caught not telling the truth. A cop would face dis plenary action from being suspended to termination for the catch all "Conduct unbecoming of and Officer" The doctor would be in trouble from the Medical board. We are not talking about rocket science here. Its funny to think one would be fired for such a thing. That is the difference between being cop in the city and a cop in a suburb. Hell Tom Hanks got a NY City police escort when he was shooting Conan O'Brien last night so that he could make it to the telethon for Haiti across town. Beverly Hills Cops escort the Stars all the time while they are in there Maserati they well shut down the roads. Michael Jackson family they shut down and entire interstate, the family was the only one on the entire interstate going to the funeral. I guarantee you the chief would have someones ass for not giving them an escort. Last Christmas I was a body guard for a well know actress. We went from DC to Tyson's Galleria, with a police escort. Thats about 15miles. My first time in a Maybach, what a ride and the woman I was with ..I was in heaven.
