Default Shopping for a new GPS.

Ok guys, I've got the truck in sig, and only have a V1 right now (love it!). I'm looking at getting a new window mount GPS setup and never really thought of using it for counter measures, but what do I need to know now when shopping? I'm not looking to spend a fortune, but I'd guess $200-$300 would be realistic. Do I have a few options? Pros and Cons? Thanks all...

I drive for a living so my Garmin 350 (already discontinued) is of an extremely help, very happy with this investment ($300 at the end of 2007).

Garmin is the best, I strongly recommend getting a Garmin, they have lots of models so take a look at their site and then start asking questions!

If you want a useful countermeasure to compliment your V1, then there is really no way to beat the Cheetahs. They are specifically designed as countermeasures. But it's not a navigation unit. It is a countermeasure. If you want a navigation unit, then you really won't get much countermeasure value out of it, no matter what you get. I have both, because there isn't one device that that does it all.

I don't know if this is a really a countermeasure but Garmin allows you to get Red Light Cameras (got 125 RLCs in and around Toronto) and Speed Cameras for Photo Radar in your GPS!

In Ontario Photo Radar has been banned in 1995 so one less thing to worry about!

you could use it by adding POI ( Points of Interest ) or applications like trapster on it. But its not a live countermeasure. Thats a whole another story.

If your looking into navi units, i would suggest the garmin model...if your tight on cash i would suggest the 205 or the 255W units. They are small, easy to easy and has everything for daily commute. But if you looking for Lane assist or bluetooth you might have to look at higher end models. I own a tomtom, garmin and some other chineese ****........garmins are the way too go......

As a navigation aid, I really like the Nuvi255W.

You can run trapster as a countermeasure on the GPS...its helpful but there are lots of alert areas.

Ok, great info guys, this was really helpful. I dont NEED it to be a countermeasure, but I figured since I was already getting a GPS, why not get something that may help me right?

Sounds like a 255W and maybe run trapster and see how I like it?

Thanks for all the info guys! This was very useful.
