Just take NY all the way, don't bother going into NJ...

I'll try to get my friend from the forum to reply here. He lives in Albany and goes to NYC a lot so he can tell you what the enforcement is like.

My only tips are instant on Ka being used by the staties and lidar on the thruway

If you want to avoid NJ, just take the 87 all the way down. Don't take 287 in NJ
yeah dont bother with NJ... from albany i take 87 all the way down. between exits 18-22 they use both ka and laser and laser is getting more and more common. they hide in the places where emergency vehicles can make u-turns. also, between exits 21, 21a, and 21b, you'll see a bunch of trees on the median, the Staties like to hide in between those as well... those are common spots and i always got tickets there before i got the V1.

but the easiest way to NYC from albany is definitely 87... yes the toll is a bit high (now higher on triboro/rfk bridge @ $6.50) but its the easiest way, most direct, and easiest on the car pothole wise lol..

take 87 south all the way, pay the toll and continue on I-87 rather than take the I-287 towards NJ, then get onto Major Deagan (the name for I-87 once the Thruway is over lol), take it all the way towards I-278/Triboro bridge and get on the part of the road where it says "QUEENS" because the Manhattan exit comes first. Stay in the middle-left lane right before the bridge then the cash tolls are on the right and EZ pass is on the left (EZ pass helps alot lol) then continue towards the actual triboro bridge. Youll be on the GCP and continue going on it. you'll see the signs for LaGuardia airport, but keep going lol. On the GCP Grand Central Parkway, you'll have to take the exit for Kennedy airport and for the Van Wyck Expressway, the exit might be on the left so be aware of that. Take it all the way to JFK and just follow the signs for long term parking. Just remember that once you pay the $6.50 toll on Triboro and cross into queens, you'll be on GCP and you have to look for Van Wyck exprssway and then once you're on it, you have to remember to stay on it until you see signs for JFK airport and long term parking. once u park you car you take the shuttle to the airtrain thing, then you take that to your terminal. In my experience.

On GCP i got hit with laser a few times, on Van Wyck so far I got nothing so I cant comment on that. I generally dont drive too fast in NYC/Queens

From Poughkeepsie i take a completely different route to get to Queens but its only practical from Poughkeepsie... if you did that from Albany it will take much longer and more tiresome before your actual flight lol

On I-87 where the speed limit is 65, if you go 75 you're safe, if you go over 80 thats a guaranteed ticket if you get clocked. Between 75-80 its up to the cop and whether or not he has met his quota or not i guess.

On the GCP, Port Authority and NYPD Hwy shoot laser when you get past the tolls on the bridge down to LaGuardia airport. past that I really don't see any enforcement. On the Van Wyck, I really haven't seen anything there in ages. Also Port Authority shoots rarely laser in the airport area.

Thanks for the detailed directions. I will take 87 all the way down now. I have a garmin with live traffic updates, so I will try to rely on that to help me take the best route when I get closer. And yea, I already reserved long term parking and it comes with a free shuttle to the airport terminal.

Its nice to know what enforcement I will be up against. I think I will trust my RX65 LI dual combo and drive at my usual clip. They haven't failed me yet (knock on wood) The only ticket I received was a laser before I got my zr3. since then I have been ticket free.

    Word.

Also, once youre on GCP be aware that the lanes are skinny as hell lol... unlike the lanes upstate. And its pretty curvy too and visitors dont know where the lanes are and go all over the place so just stay in the middle-left lanes until Van Wyck while you are on GCP.

I thought that K was dead in my town, Ka is used by most LEO's. Today I ran into a LEO running K. Be careful when customizing your RD to reduce falses or to improve response.

Same here, I had K off for a year and my friend told me there was a crown vic running it. Well guess, what, before I left my garage I turned K back on, hit the highway and at the gas station by the hwy precinct that fkn vic was there running c/o k band. I was cursing at myself so much because that's why I probably got crap when I spotted a few vics with customers in that area...

heh, i was forced to upgrade from a Whistler to Belscort because I live in a TSR heavy area, AND almost ALL of my locals use K-band almost exclusively, except CHP. f***! Good news: they almost always run c/o k.

i feel your pain for TSR issues
