Audio Output from a Uniden Pro 510XL

Am I correct to state that the audio output comes out of a speaker at the BOTTOM of the radio unit?

I was looking at old pictures of my install and initially thought that the holes at the bottom were for cooling. But after some usage, I realize it might actually be for audio output. I'm questioning the wisdom of installing my radio in the dash, since its audio output is essentially 'trapped'. I can still hear it clearly though--just wondering if I should make a slot to let the sound "out"...

Oh yeah, good idea. I think I'll implement that.. Perhaps I'll cut a new opening in that piece of wood and place my speaker there! Haahaha..

x2, There are el-cheapos at trucks stops (from 5-50bucks)... and most from 10-20will knock your socks off compared to the stock one, especially because you can place them in an optimal location.

Any ideas where I should look? I tried Fry's but they don't have such stuff. I could go to a truck stop, but there are none nearby...

Search for "Uniden ESP-5". I got mine from a truck stop, but you can get them super cheap on the internet ($3-$10) It's small enough for a regular car and is much more pleasant to listen to than the crappy internal speaker in my Cobra 19. Size isn't that important for audio quality. The box for the Uniden says the frequency response is 500hz-5000hz. That would be terrible for any other speaker, but it works for a CB becasue you don't want to hear anything other than the human voice.

Thanks! Walmart also carries that speaker for ~$4. I looked at it but the dimensions seem a little too big. (3.5 inch by 3.25 inch)

I was hoping to use a speaker with 1 inch diameter that I could fit into my radio console. Was thinking of cannibalizing a old computer speaker or something..

So, instead of buying a $3.98 Uniden 5-watt speaker from Walmart, I went ahead and got a 2-5/16 inch (aka 6cm) diameter speaker off a old Panasonic phone messaging system.

Problem is, there are 2 wires that come out of the speaker. Red and Black. Any idea how a Red-Black wire is supposed to connect to a 3.5mm jack? I tried looking online for sources but none I found seem to be very helpful.

I got a pair of free headphones (with a 3.5mm jack) lying around, so I stripped the insulation off.. and I see three wires! Green, Red, Gold. (stereo headphones?)

Anyone knowledgeable with electronics care to help me out?
