First off, the radar antenna wasn't facing straight up. It was facing forward and up at about a 30 degree angle. Secondly, happya$$ got his Pro78 straight from Michael B, so it shouldn't have been lacking any sensitivity. Third, who cares which way the antenna is facing? Every other non-busted RD was able to detect the signals at a much further distance, about 3 to 5 times as far.
The Whistlers lack sensitivity. That's the truth. They cost what they cost for a reason. The Whistler will be tested again at the next GOL and I guarantee that they will perform just like they always have, near the bottom. Me buying one won't change that. Why don't you go out and purchase a 9500ci and compare the two? I know they perform well under normal straight road, no terrain, against high powered radar, but what I deal with over here is the real deal. The Stalker II is no joke and emits an extremely weak signal, which is exactly where the Whistlers struggle, raw sensitivity.
The numbers don't lie Jag42.
Any correctly working RD will alert to door openers when you park in front of them. You may want the 9500 with GPS to lock out falses, as it appears you get annoyed by door openers.
One of my very first experiences with a radar detector was with a whistler and it did fairly well and spared my friend of many tickets, but to compare it to a V1 is a little bit of a stretch like djrams80 said they do fairly well on straight roads with no terrain interference but with todays new radar guns the V1 and high end belscorts (8500,9500,sti) are way ahead of the pack.
Works for me.
We were doing a laser jammer test. Once finished, we decided we had time for some RD testing, which was mostly to test the two 9500ci's that were in attendance. We had time, so we tested everything there. We grabbed everyone's RD that was there. Jerry540i's STi was busted. That's just the deal. He had no idea it was busted until we tested it. I guarantee you that a working STi destroys a working Whistler on Ka band raw sensitivity. The chart posted by Jag42 shows exactly that and also shows that a Pro78's Ka band sensitivity is somewhere between a Cobra and an X50, which is exactly what I'm saying. Even if the Rev C is 20-30% higher in sensitivity, like Jag42 is claiming, that's less than 1dB at these levels.
