    Default V1 dark/dim mode?

Just purchased a V1. I read through the manual cover to cover and didn't see anything about a dim or dark mode. Is this possible? The display is very bright, especially at night. I'd like to tone it down if possible.

    Thanks.

it is automatic, it does tone down a lot at night.

I found the V1's display, even after it had automatically dimmed, to be too bright for my tastes in twilight and especially at night.

You can make it totally black with a resistor.

I also don't know what happened to it, but someone used to make a chip you could install across the 7 segment display that would be off, and then when it alerted it would turn on.

a piece if Scotch 'magic mending tape' over the display will diffuse the light, a bit.
the foggy looking stuff, not the glossy cello tape

I've use this technique to temporarily dim many a glaring pilot light/power indicator

Not sure why everyone are going with resistors and tape, but why don't you get the concealed display and that way, it will be concealed all the time, you don't have to mess around with tape and you don't void your warranty by opening up the unit and soldering a resister in there.

    My .002 cents.

The auto dimming works pretty good, but if it's still too bright I suggest the CD if your concern is people behind you seeing you have a RD.

I wondered that when I first read this. The CD should solve your problem. I don't like to much light in my cab at night but have no problem with the V1 CD. Escort on the other hand is way to bright at night.
