Should Doctors En Route To Surgery Receive Speeding Tickets?

There are groups that you do not hassle or for that matter in my opinion- give tickets to. The first is Doctors and Nurses, you are going to see them again. You pray its not to save your life or another cops. You leave them alone period. The other is Teachers. This is one more time when some Cop thinks giving a ticket is the proper course of action to a man that is going to save a persons life. Its to easy to verify this and let the Doctor go. Sometime ago I was stopped by VS for going triple digits on an interstate late at night. I had an emergency that involved my Son. He let me go, forty minutes later he showed up at my residence. He shook my hand and said I did not know an Excursion could go that fast, got back in his PC and rolled out.

That would depend on how fast he is driving in what zone. In my opinion. As a firefighter I am not allowed to speed when called in.

A plastic surgeoun enroute to implant someone's ego can take the same steps as the rest of us, hospitals staff their ERs, which narrows it to a small section of unplanned emergency surgeries that cannot wait. And if that doctor is driving in an unsafe manner enroute to surgery and kills someone else or themselves, or gets into an accident that they can't make it the surgery in the first place sorta defeats the purpose, and the officer that stops them and lets them go could potentially face civil liability suits. So sorry no blanket answer from me but most cases would be sure go ahead and write them just as much as the next guy.

Doctors on the way to surgery, no. Nurses, yes. Teachers, absolutely, just like everyone else.

Totally agree with a plastic s urgent. Obviously you would have to be a Doctor that is truly going to save ones life. Would you want a Doctor working on your family members brain or a Nero surgeon. Doctors that are truly professional that I have come across are not running lights or going 100mph through the city. As for firemen that truly depends on the dept you work for or what the case may be. When the 911 took place we all went code 1. Did not matter if you were in a Yugo or what ever. When the plane hit the 14th street bridge same thing. When we has the riots in DC in 1990 did not matter, no one on this side of the pond is going to stop you from saving a life.

I work at a hospital and a Cardiologist told me story about a guy that came into the ER with a heart attack, they called him in to do a emergency heart cath. On the way to the hospital he was stopped for speeding, he told the cop what he was going to the hospital for a emergency the cop still gave him a ticket and then told him to drive to the hospital at the PSL, and the cop followed him the whole way.

The other Dr's I have talked to have had better experiences they said the police alot of the time they will even escort them to the hospital, and defiantly don't give them tickets. There are always ER Dr's at the hospital but alot of time they need to call Specialists for Heart issues, Ortho guys for car crashes, etc. if the cops where smart they would let them do their job. I am sure if it was a member of their family they wouldn't delay the Dr.

I would not stop a Dr. in route to an emergency. I would however turn on the blues and escort him to the hospital. When I get there it had better be an emergency though!!

Hell no. If I was a doctor and got a ticket on the way to an emergency, I'd tell the cop I hope you never get shot, or need an immediate surgery, because I will take my time on getting to the hospital, prick. That's just whack.

Unfortunately after reading this news item yesterday, i had reason to consider it application to a member of the public.

My son cut thte top of his finger off in a door (he is 9). Expecting that how the amputated part is treated is a time related problem, we all got in the car and headed to the hospital (just waiting for an abulance with a screaming child would be too much agony)

Its surprising how people get out of your way when you are double the psl flashing lights etc. to be honest I couldnt give a shot if I was pulled over, more important things on my mind - though stopping and then going through red lights if no traffic, did make one driver hysterical with his horn - god knows what people think honking at someone aho has just gone through a red light clearly deliberately is going to achive (he probably drives in the passing lane on the speed limit too).

So next time you see someone driving crazy as if no laws existed - just think - it might actaully be someone in an emergency , not just some lunatic.

And yes, he got it stitched back on by an orthopeadic surgeon, no time wasnt reall that much of an essence in hindsight (they just threw the zip locked bag in a cup with ice ), he's fine this morning, but we wont know if the attachment is successful for 2 weeks.
